Builders & Environment
  • Hilton Head has launched a major local SWPPP enforcement effort, dramatically stepping up is Notice of Violations.
  • Centex has sold of it's commercial construction division.
  • Here is a Full Fact Sheet on the EPA and Justice Department's settlement with Pflueger about His Major Development on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii.
  • We are beginning to track and post any Notices of Violations or Notices of Enforcement. I would be very interested in any online local sources that would provide that kind of information.

Telecom & Technology

In Africa, The State Owned Phone Companies and Monopolies are going through changes in Leadership and structure as they adapt to more competitive environments. Note the changes in Malawi. VOIP and other Convergence technologies like Phone-computer combinations which serve small businesses are continuing to shape the telecom industry in Africa.

Emergency Service Communications

This is a new section tracking news on communication systems and technology news about upcoming major purchases by municipalities and states to equipp Emergency Services. Again, I would be very interested in any online local sources that would provide that kind of information.

Business as Mission, Kingdom Catalyst

Carrol Davis, a speaker from our ICBMI conference last year(now Kingdom Catalyst) will be at Baylor University this week. Carol Davis and several other leaders will be on the campus of Baylor University to host an intersection conference. The conference runs April 12- 14 and will feature students from Baylor, Texas A&M, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Dallas Baptist University and Howard Payne. (more here from the Business as Mission Blogspot)

Egypt:

The third human case of Bird Flu was diagnosed in Egypt, and the Muslim Brotherhood continues to expand its influence. This week we discuss the Netherlands.


Fiji:

Fiji's economy is adapting to the post-coup sanctions from December, Though many predict rough and unpredictable waters ahead. The CEO of Fiji's Telephone Monopoly FINTEL Resigned last week, and later said he was asked to resign. This occurs in the wake of the announcement by the Fiji Minister of Commerce's move to deregulate Telecom systems.

Malawi

Malawi is seeking to have it's Credit Rating Reviewed, as it continues to make Progress in its economic Development Goals. Because of Improvements in its economic and banking practices, as well as elimination of Debt, Malawi’s external debt has dropped from from 142% of GDP at the end of 2005 to 23% of GDP at the end of 2006.

Mexico

A Chinese Telecom company will give Mexico City's 8 million residents citywide free Wi-Fi access, along with some 4,000 closed-circuit security cameras, according to Mayor Mercelo Ebrard (the Rest)

Uganda:

UGANDA has been named among the top five economically-free nations in sub-Saharan Africa, a report has shown. The 2007 Index of Economic Freedom Report ranked over 161 countries in 10 economic areas like property rights, tax rates and entrepreneurship(the rest)
